Michael Levin passed away in 2006. It was always his dream to establish a center to support Lone Soldiers. The Lone Soldier Center was created in his memory in 2009.

Fifteen Years of Community and Support

The Lone Soldier Center was founded in memory of Michael Levin, a Lone Soldier from Philadelphia who joined the IDF's Paratroopers Brigade. In 2006, during a family visit to the U.S., the Second Lebanon War erupted. Without hesitation, Michael returned to Israel to stand alongside his fellow soldiers. Tragically, he was killed in action at the young age of 21, and his story has since inspired the creation of a center where Lone Soldiers can find the support and sense of family he envisioned.

Established by Michael’s family and friends, the Lone Soldier Center became a place for camaraderie, shared meals, and emotional support. 

For over 15 years, our partners, including the Lone Soldier Center, has been a home and community for thousands of Lone Soldiers before, during, and after their service. Our dedicated team and volunteers provide a safe and nurturing environment where 3,500 soldiers without family in Israel can rest, connect, and pursue their dreams.

From a typical American boy to a hero of Israel.

Michael Levin grew up in the United States with a lifelong dream of serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In 2004, he fulfilled that dream by making Aliyah (immigrating to Israel) and enlisting in the Paratroopers Brigade.

In 2006, while visiting his family in the U.S., the Second Lebanon War erupted. Demonstrating his unwavering commitment, Michael returned to Israel to fight alongside his comrades. Tragically, on August 1, 2006, Michael was killed in action by sniper fire during a mission in the Lebanese village of Ayta ash-Shab. He was 22 years old.

Michael’s legacy lives on through the Lone Soldier Center in his memory, established in 2009. This center fulfills his vision of creating a home for Lone Soldiers—providing a space for support, camaraderie, and a sense of family. It ensures that no Lone Soldier has to face their challenges alone.
